I’d recommend the Perfomancing extension for blog posting, and the Xinha Here! for adding WYSIWYG editing to any web form.
Here are a few extensions I recommend (copied from my own list of extensions that I find useful):
• I like Add Bookmark Here, which adds an similarly titled menu item to every submenu in the Bookmarks menu enabling easy bookmarking in any folder.
• Then there’s Uppity, which adds an “Up” toolbar button that can be added to the navigation toolbar (and optionally the status bar, too), and makes navigating up a website’s directory structure as easy as clicking the button or pressing Alt-Up (Option-Up on Macs).
• Finally, Tabs Menu adds, appropriately enough, a Tabs menu to Firefox’s main menu bar. This simple feature makes navigating the current window’s open tabs much, much easier.
Great post!
I’ve installed a few extensions from your listing.. some of which I never knew existed!
lovely, thanks
u forgot antipagination, very cool with scrapbook fro offline browsing.
If you want to format a webpage for printing, you can remove clutter by using these two extensions - Nuke Anything Enhanced and Aardvark. Also, similiar to Paste and Go is Fetch URL. Xinha is WYSIWYG editor for commenting in blogs (its the tool I’m using to post this comment). Also, for bloggers is Performancing for Firefox, a full featured blog editor. Rounding off, I would like to add QuickNote, an extension that adds Opera’s Notes feature.
Let me be the first to say THANK YOU! Many very useful things here. Question: These DO add to the boot up time of Firefox, am I right? Takes up more system resources?
torrentools: cool for torrents..,
webpedia: cool for bloggers and taggers..,
trovando: search 3300+ engines..
Viamatic foXpose is a brilliant extension to get an overview of your tabs
What? POTO Sidebar is not in there?!
http://leon-huang.com/poto
The first extension I always install is PasswordMaker from http://www.passwordmaker.org — it is a password generating extension that generates a different password for each web site you visit (based on a single master password) so you no longer really care if some web site has lax security and a hacker steals its password database.
You should check out chipmark, it is an excellent bookmarking tool.
I recommend ietab over ieview anytime…
Colorzilla
MeasureIt
EditCSS
all can be found on the mozilla site. They’re good for developers. Also I like OpenNewWindowFromHere
I was using bookmarks syncronizer for a bit, but had troubles with it. Then I found FoxMarks (in beta) which gives me access to all my bookmarks in the same structure as my menus, and should (I haven’t tested this yet) sync my PC at work to match.
From the same person who brought Disable Target For Downloads, Context Search is another must-have tool for me, and should be for anyone who frequently uses the Mycroft search services.
You forgot one, well strictly not an extension but a plugin non the less : http://igloader.com
I’d like to recommend MR Tech’s Local install in place of Restart Firefox. It has the “Restart Firefox” functionality, plus other functions to help manage extensions (such as alphabetical sorting of the extensions list, ability to override compatibility checking, auto-generation of plain text or HTML lists of installed extensions, etc.). Really a very nice piece of work.
FilterG is great but it too powerful, can cause you not to see some of the image that website have it own that are not ads
Don’t forget conQuery. Adds your search engines to the context menu when a word is selected.
And menu editor. It allows complete customation of Firefox’s menus.
Great list. Thanks !
i love the new performancing for firefox extension. it makes blogging while switching between tags so easy….. i also love the Sage RSS feed reader extension.
y would u install, load and use 4 different extensions if Tabbrowser Extension (http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/tabextensions/index.html.en) does all of them for you?
You might want to change your link from Adblock to Adblock Plus. Adblock is no longer updated and is completely useless on the new versions of Firefox, afaik.
First of all, sorry for my english.
Nice Blog,i have a few more extensions of interest,
Aardvark as said here,to choose what parts of a webpage you want to print and what parts you don’t want to,
Remove it permanently(R.I.P) to remove parts of a webpage as aardvark does but permanently on a webpage,so you dont see them anymore. The difference of this extension and greasemonkey is that this lets you choose with a right click what parts of a webpage to avoid, without knowing javascript and in an easy way.A good partner for greasemonkey i think.
easyGestures:Underrated(this is my opinion)on the net, this extension gives you a cute customizable menu(and with some extra options like duplicate tab, zoom in and out, previous site, next site, link to webs,to open external apps,go up on a site etc.)that opens clicking the center button of your mouse(but can be opened with the right button if you choose this in the preferences dialog of the extension). Its a graphic cyrcle menu(as a whell, like the ipod you know).try it ;).
If i may i wanna add a thing,my blog is under construction,im looking for a good template or something for it,if you know about anyone, check them out and write my a comment with where can i find them.thanks anyway.
KEEP ON GOING WITH THIS BLOG !!!
Yeah, Performancing is antoehr “must-have” extension
For most people, Platypus (platypus.mozdev.org) is a useful adjunct to Greasemonkey.
I just wish they’d fix the Search Web rightclick so that it actually worked right… putting quotes around the selected text so every phrase you search for doesn’t put half the Internet in the results, and every name you search for doesn’t grab every geneology page.
As far as additional addons go… that long unused blue bar at the top would make a dandy place to put a newsticker, like on the bottom of the screen at FoxNews.
I never ever want to open a link in a new window, I wish I knew how to drop that option out of the rightclick list…
browster.com - IE/Firefox-plugin software allows pop-up previews of webpages, and helps in browsing and loading pages faster.
Folks !
What about Save Page As ?
I gonna nutz searching good or serviceable extension for Firefox 1.5.
Nothing works.
One works but bunks midway. When you copy web page or it’s text, the Save Page As tab doesn’t
work when u right click to use it.
Don’t tell me Scrapbook or Slogger or Toolbar Enhancements. My great FF was dead the next
minute with these.
I had to scratch it and reinstall back to life.
The whole / holy FF 1.5 community including it’s fathers who had gone bonkers about this great
browser seem to have forgotten about simplifying SAVE PAGE AS.
Everybody saves. I save. You save and the globe saves.
Any wonder boy here ? ? ?

Tab X isn’t necessary with the existance of Tab Mix Plus, as TMP allows the addition of the X to each tab, while also removing it from the main Tab Bar.
I have my ‘X’ set to appear only upon rollover.
Great list. Here’s my contribution:
X-Ray | Displays the HTML tags around the content on a webpage, letting you see how the document was constructed without having to go back and forth between the sourcecode and the rendered page in your browser.
Groowe toolbar firefox extension, has them all ,Yahoo,Google,Dogpile, etc. you name it,it has it..
Tab Browser Extensions
http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/tabextensions/index.html.en
This extension will do what tabbrowser preferences, tab mix plus, unclosetab, tab x, and duplicate tab all do, plus alot more.
I never understood why this is not on the mozilla site…it it one of my favorite extensions. Check it out.
Nice list…keep up the good work!
This tool enables you to add a custom search engine to Firefox with one click. You can include 1-25 sites.
Mozilla Firefox Custom Search Engine.
first of all, the tabbrowser preference is broken. you can’t middle click the bookmark into a new tab anymore. i’ve emailed the author and he doesn’t respond. this only applies on brand NEW installs of FF1.5.
secondly, many users still rely on the ‘favorites’ folder for all their bookmarks and thus far, there hasn’t been a bookmark extension uses the fav folder like IE does. it should be fairly simple to write, if i only had the time! i’d hate to synchronize it everytime i add/remove a bookmark! the closest one is syncmark but 1.5 broke compatibility. i was using it for a while.
ScreenGrab should only be recommenced for Firefox 1.0.x users who have Java installed.
Firefox 1.5 users should use Pearl Crescent Page Saver instead.
It uses the brand new Canvas feature instead of Java to save the viewable portion or the whole page with one mouse click.
Additionally you can use “firefox -savepng http://www.mozilla.org/” to save a screenshot from the command line.
Pearl Crescent Page Saver works like a charm and is localized in cs-CZ, de-DE, en-US, es-ES, fr-FR, it-IT, ru-RU, sk-SK and sl-SI.
i found a very cool extension for filtering web sites it’s called ProCon, you can find it in the firefox extension site
Scribe : Open and save form entries as files.
Excellent find on the Forecastfox Enhanced. I love the ability to pick a URL for the radar image. Ive never liked the Accuweather radar images. Now I can pick my local news station to get the image, I can pick the display size of the image and animate it.
Great find and great work on the part of the author.
Nice list! May I humbly suggest Hyperwords? http://www.hyperwords.net
Firefox Showcase, one of the extendfirefox contest finalists. Better than foxPose and Separe and from my point of view even better for navigating through Tabs and Windows than Reveal.
good stuff
I am surprised in a “constantly updated” site, that gmail delete button is still listed as it has been included in Gmail for some months. So this extension now only creates a redundant Delete button.
here are MY Firefox extention choices
1-click weather, accessibar, deskcut, view in i.e. [though LORD knows why, lol],plugins [gotta have these !],image zoomer,i.e. tab [once again,lol],g-mail manager [mutiple g-mail accounts, handy],always remember yahoo password, yahoo e-mail previewer

It should go in the “Control myself” category
Thanks for your post, it is help me to choose extension
very helpful!
finally..I found it.. :0 tq
I would also add Map+ to the list. Other then that perfect.
In the ‘Control your Bookmarks’ category I would add Jeteye. Finally a way to easily group links and images in a taggable and searchable way. I’m totally hooked!
Fun list, thanks. I’ve got several of these excellent extensions and I must say that my supercharged Firefox is one of my most important productivity tools! I’d add the new coComment extension to this growing list. Helps me keep great track of my blog comments.
Thanks for taking time to compile a very useful list.
You should definetly add permaTabs to the “control firefox tabs” section.
Thank you! This has been very helpful!
I miss Foxy Voice, which doesn’t work for FF 1.5. Does anyone know of another FF text-to-speech extension? Thanks!
As a web developer my best friends are
Web Developer
CSS Viewer
Aardvark
CheckPage links
etc …

Please do add Firebug. It’s unmissable!
Finally I found it, I was looking for the InFormEnter for my firefox but didn’t remember the name.
Thanks
this a really extensive list. thanks… I am going to try some of them. My fav is the tab mix plus that saves my tab sessions. I also want to add Mouseless Browsing as a good extension that allows you to surf without a mouse if you have RSI.
can u suggest me a firefox plugin for capturing online web flash animations? i think firefox loses here with IE.
Well, you didn’t miss ANY of my favorites. AND, I picked up a few new ones to try. THANKS for the post!
diigo is a killer — a big time saver for me
P2P for Firefox.

http://www.gtdgmail.com/
Another extension that I really love is Super DragAndGo.
Its a really great extension that lets you drag a link and automatically open it in a new tab. When you are done, just close the tab with your mouse gestures and you are right back to where you started. Works on images too.
Thanks. Thought I had them all, but realise I missed a few essentials…
Very good list plus if you look at the comments, you can find few more!
Hi,
I like 2 extensions form Firefox.
1. Html Validator (it have an internal validator and it can validate your source like w3.org)
2. Search Status (it is a litlle extension what check your webpage rank from Alexa and Google)
Regards
absolutly wicked
Excellent article, lots of info on just one page!
undotab can’t be use in ff 0.9 above
tab mix plus includes the functionality of Sessionsaver, undoclosetab and Tab X.
one of my favorite extensions is easyGestures. it’s a mouse gestures extension but it has a gui so it makes it so much easier. i have like 8 different actions defined that i use regularly and about 7 more that i use once in a while. with regular mouse gestures (which i used to use) it is much harder to remember and perform that many actions with the speed and ease of easyGestures. it is also very customizable and lets u launch bookmarks or local programs or custom scripts, lets u transform it into a circular or linear menu with regular, little or no icons. theres a lot more options but u get the idea.
other extensions i like are:
CoLT (Copy Link Text)
editcss
enhanced bookmark search
googlebar lite
iget (start a download from an address)
Nuke Anything Enhanced
popup alt attribute (like in ie)
show image (like in ie if an image fails to load)
Super DragAndGo (drag a link to open in new tab, drag a text link to open the address or drag a word to search)
(all found on the mozilla site)
Great list. Thanks!
I have installed a few extensions from your listing, some of which I never knew existed!
I would recommend foxyproxy over switchproxy; I’ve used both and foxyproxy has much more functionality - there’s also currently a way to implement proxy based on ip, and it’ll be integrated in the next version.
Google Preview
The Diigo tool bar is also pretty cool~~
Really nice list, thanks!
Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE) and Fire Encrypter are also nice extensions.
(CORRECTION)
Hi everybody, here’s an important question:
I want to save all the pages I visit with my FF as it’s seen (as is; just like ’save as’ makes; I mean NOT the picture of the page);
and I want to make it to a directory which I can manage later;
It will automatically save the page with an -automatic may be- generated name, I will search this later. Also the address of the page can be recorded too if possible.
now,
is there an extension, tool or sth can
help about this?
Thnx!
(the answer is NOT breadcrumbs because its not workin good also don’t know where does it saves the page! But I also want to manage these files later; so is there any idea about this? )
I would recommend foxyproxy over switchproxy too.
Thanks for the list! I use some of them myself.
Great list. Thanks for providing such a useful resource.
One suggestion please update the list according to latest extensions.
Thanks in advance.
performaning’s pluin for blogs is the best ever i liked. Any ways i prefer to use flock browser over firefox.
My all-time top extension is Cooliris, for previewing links on a page in a separate window. Even though I don’t use Firefox on a regular basis, I sometimes fire it up specifically to use this plugin.
It is faster than actually following the link, which saves me a lot of time, especially if the link is not especially useful.
Please consider our Interclue addon for your next update to this list. Try it, I think you’ll like it.

Wowww.

Great Post! I already installed some of the useful extension. Thanks!
again, thx.
this will be my first site every day
Thanks for providing such a useful collection. Keep up the good work and continue to provide us more quality information.
firebug is much better than Web Developer
I guess Youlicit Firefox extension can fall under “Control Web Searches”. It’s a great tool for finding similar websites based on the one you’re on. You can save your findings as well just like Del.icio.us, but Youlicit takes to the next level by providing you relevant websites so you won’t have to search as much. I find myself using Youlicit at least twice a day to find something that I want to sort through in Google results. I’m sick of Google’s outdated results, to be honest.
Opps! I meant to say, “…I DON’T want to sort through in Google results…”
maybe it’s time to update the list ????
Thanks…very useful…keep on going!
WOW! Buddy.. Nice List of Add-Ons..
I Like It.. Yeah!
Thanks.
proxies dont work anymore can someone give meh sumthin else non related to proxy? pleeeeze:)

Greetings S

Great list. Thanks for sharing.
Also Quick Translation
The most easy to use translation add-on.
nice list — these belong on my site; you should visit it and participate - you could contribute a whole lot; otherwise, i’ll do it myself. don’t worry about being too thorough, all site members can edit entries..think digg meets wiki.
reliablesource.org
great . i like this
this subject is very important for us . thank for subject. please write back soon
Please consider http://www.SurfCanyon.com for your next update. It’s a brand new search enhancement for Google, Yahoo! and MSN Live Search. The extension adds a real-time personalization layer (no profiles or histories required) to help users dig relevant information out of the result set. It essentially figures out what you want and then goes past page 1 of the results and fetches it for you.
What plugin(s) do I need to install to be able to “clip” stuff from youtube, send it to my email add, hdd or wherever so I can play it instantly and not have to wait for it to slowly download?
Cheers
Yea, for Web Devs: Firebug!!!! Also, YSlow to see how to improve a site’s performance.
FireFox Rocks but there should be three or so leading browsers on the web with each having a 30% share of the market. We shouldn’t be trying to take over IE’s reign we should just be trying to dampen it down somewhat so that there is no market leader.
What about the following extensions?
Piclens: very very good. turns a borrrrring image search into a superb experience. must have add-on.
Stumble Upon: good for discovering new websites.
FlagFox: feel safer in the most secure browser. know where a web site’s server is!
Net Usage Item: measure ur broadband usage.
Cooliris Previews: for the people who like less windows and tabs.
Just got to the following site and search for the above extensions. sorry i could not get the links.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
OMG! You combine all this extensions in one browser and you get….
Opera =O
@ iusMateo
Ahah, poor Opera. It has much less functions that Firefox with 4 or 5 extensions. TabMix Plus, NoScript, Secure Login, FlashBlock and All-in-one-Sidebar, then you go with Autofill Forms and DownThemAll!, you get Opera, more or less, then you go with 50+ must have extensions (most of them not counted here) and you Opera 15.5 or something. Since they still are on Opera 9.5, it’ll take them a LONG time to get to Firefox.
This is the best collection of the firefox extensions I have ever seen.
Great Job..
If you need to do any css style sheet changes then editcss is a must. http://editcss.mozdev.org/
I think Google Toolbar isn’t a good idea if you want to be secure about your privacie life. all the bar you install on any navigator is watching where you go, what you like, and where you live.
With that, Google can influence you choosing his services because he knows how to speak to you.
Soory for my english.
FasterFox is a damaging addon for a few reaons.
It words by downloading data from links on the page you are browsing. That can include links which will perform actions, such as posting on forums or purchasing items (this will not usually occur in a well coded site, but it has been reported to happen).
It also loads content from people’s website continually, and becomes hugely expensive to the website owner due to the amount of bandwidth being used.
I would probably be a good idea to remove it from the list.
I like Go Green Label….For environment!
Awwww….what about stylish?
Simply select any text on your screen, and you can get the search results immediately in Google (text, image, video, …), YouTube, Maps, Amazon, and more. No need to open new window (tab), unless that is what you want (see below).

Great list! Firefox > IE

This is my list of favourite Firefox add ons: http://www.driftingdots.com/float/fireaddons.html
I suggest OutWit Hub. It allows you to:
- extract data tables such as the CNN or Forbes’ rankings and export them into a pretty Excel spreadsheet,
- download tons of pictures, mangas, wallpapers,
- grab and find numerous documents of the topic you want on google or other search engine,
You can find somes reviews at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7271
Cheers,
Is there a plugin which auto corrects typing in the browser? like the auto correct in word.
Tree Style Tabs is a much better way to do what Separare tries to do IMHO.
I’m still looking for something that auto corrects any text I type into a text box….. Anyone?
why can’t I download the video as I used to in firefox2? I have to copy the link to internet explorer then download the video.
TopicInsight is a new cool search helper addon. I really recommend it. Very easy to find related web pages. I mean not only similar pages, but other ones too. Even those ones you’d never find the other way. It is still in the sandbox, but I had a chance to try it. It’s actually very useful.
Nice job!
the best extension “cookies manager”, It’s fully customizable.

Nice List!
I recently wrote my own list on my blog. You missed a couple of my favorites including FireBug!!
FireGestures… best mouse gestures extension imho. Combined with autoHideStatusbar and Stumble, you can have a really neat fullscreen surfing experience. (You can use FireGestures to open tabs, cycle between them, close them, open Google or any webpage, save bookmarks, etc… You can even a custom script to ’stumble’ with a single flick of the mouse!).
Instead of Stealther, I use Distrust. I don’t know if stealther works okay, but Distrust works very well. You click the distrust ‘eye’, and nothing get’s saved anymore, till you click it again, and then you are returned to the web site which you were visiting before (when your boss/teacher comes in xD)
last.fm is great. so is stumble upon, but I think that was in your list.
I have to mention BlueDot.

I use faves to save (one link at a time) link and post a quick note about it that I can retrieve from another computer later. Linkwad or Galleropa is for saving multiple tabs. Faves has a more active user group than mogda, yoono, etc.
ScribeFire/Performancing is excellent for research notes, but unless one has set up a blog, confined to one computter.
Once again, go visit http://faves.com/home …
